In parallel with the history of those who arrived with the waves of (mostly male) immigrants during the period of economic change, there are other history. The vestiges of these stories need to be preserved, and these voices heard, and yet individual faces are emerging: the women who have managed to overcome the difficulties and make the most of the new opportunities or to sidestep the forces holding them back.
